PreCollegiate was founded in 2003 through a partnership between the Roaring Fork School District, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado Mountain College, and Aspen Community Foundation. The goal of the Program was to provide academic and extracurricular support to first-generation college bound students. Now in its 20th year, the Program serves over 400 students in the Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs middle and high schools.
The Program is designed to provide both experiential and practical support to students. The goal is to “level the playing field” for motivated students, establish the expectation of going to college, and remove barriers that commonly impact first-generation students.
Despite the generous monetary and in-kind support of our Program partners, there remains an annual gap in both volunteer time and monetary resources required to meet both the operating costs of the Program and to deliver the type and kind of student support services that are integral to a pre-college track.
